Dear Friends,
This past year turned out to be a momentous time as we formed Paperboy Digital Consulting. After decades working for large publishers, Bryan and Lanell saw a need to more directly support libraries and cultural heritage institutions digitizing their archival material. We are setting out specifically to make the digitization process more equitable and help digitize content from minority and marginalized communities. We believe we can accomplish this by focusing on three core principles. 1) Build Open Access collections in support of the Digital Humanities; 2) Diversify content to balance the digital corpus; and, 3) Create a collaborative setting to foster peer support.
As we formed the company, it was so wonderful to receive a warm welcome from all those that visited our booths at the Charleston Conference and DLF Forum. It was most heartwarming for the kind words of encouragement from past colleagues and reassuring that our message was well received by new friends. We are so grateful for the team at the Charleston Conference that helped us host a focus group to validate and iterate our concept. Thank you to the wonderful librarians that took time from their busy schedule to provide invaluable advice.
We are so very excited for 2024. Our journey is just beginning and we invite you to join us on an exciting adventure. We will be starting a pilot program to lead a group of institutions through the digitization process together. We will build a community of peer support and help guide the group through all aspects of the digitization process from scoping, planning and funding through digitization, hosting and preservation. If you lack funding, we can help. The first phase of the program will focus on scoping, planning and end with a formal proposal for a grant or other funding source. The second phase will utilize economies of scale to ensure a cost effective solution.
Join us Thursday, January 25, 2024, 2:00 PM EST for a webinar Q&A session to learn more about the pilot program. Colleagues are welcome to join the program at any time, however, we encourage you to get an early start so we have a full year of funding to explore.
